Scovill's Cemetery

Have I mentioned I love, love, LOVE secret hidden cemeteries?

Scovill's Cemetery is a pioneer cemetery located on Island Road, Scugog Island in Port Perry. It might also be called Schovill's or Scovell's Cemetery, as I've seen it listed these ways too. It is being maintained by the town of Scugog, and while the property is being mowed, the stones are being allowed to fall and deteriorate. The entrance to the cemetery is not marked, at all. Also there is technically no road, just a mowed path through a farmers field. At this time of the year you can't see the cemetery from the road due to the growth in the field, and it is a decent ways back.
If you are looking to visit this place yourself, the easiest way to find it is to keep your eyes open for the Humewood Farm barn, because the pathway is right next to that property. Parking is on the road, don't try to drive up the grassy path, it's rougher than it looks in the photo.
This is what you see when you finally reach the cemetery, a little fence, a big tree, a pretty place.
There are not a lot of graves here, though they are spread out across the lot. Some are hidden in the grass, some of the monuments are broken and partially buried. The ground itself is a bit rough in places, there are divetts and holes from animals as well. Watch your step!
