What's that you say? You've lived in Cobourg forever and you had no idea this cemetery even existed? There's a reason for that- it's completely hidden in plain sight, in fact, if you don't live on Veronica Street, you probably won't ever see it!
Hull's Corners Old Methodist Cemetery is located on Veronica Street, it backs onto Division, and one side faces directly onto the 401. It is on the right as you drive along the exit ramp from the 401 to Division Street, but due to the trees and the huge mountain of dirt and construction trucks, you can't even tell it's there.
Back in the olden days (the 1800's) this particular section of Cobourg was known as Hull's Corners, named after tavern owner Edward Hull. It had a small chapel, a mill, a tavern, and a few families. All the original skeletons of Hull's Corners have long since disappeared, except those who remain in this cemetery. The green brick house beside the cemetery was once an old chapel, though not the original one. It is now a family home and looks nothing like a church of any sort.
Speaking of this house, it appears the only way into the cemetery is to walk up the house's driveway and then walk into the cemetery. Please be respectful, you are walking across someone's property. Also, there are no signs telling you that this is, in fact, Hull's Corners Cemetery, and it is fairly hard to see the cemetery from the road. The cemetery is being maintained, but some of the stones are falling over, and some are too weather worn to read, as tends to be the way it goes with these older cemeteries.
